Introducing ISoP

People of Indian origin, constitute the region's third largest ethnic community. Individually they contribute substantial talent and expertise to the development of the region. However, as a community, they are largely unseen, unheard, and under-represented. The India Society of Pittsburgh (ISoP) was formed recently to address this need.

Vision and Mission

ISoP's vision and mission are to be a unified and distinguished voice of the people of Indian origin in the greater Pittsburgh region. ISoP seeks to provide leadership in promoting the cultural, social, economic, political, and community activities of the people of Indian origin, in promoting India, and in contributing to the overall growth of the region.

Goals

Some of the goals of ISoP are:

bullet Be the liaison among the different existing Indian cultural, social, religious, economic, political, and community organizations;
bullet Be a conduit of information for the Indian community;
bullet Encourage, support, and foster greater community participation in cultural, social, economic, and political activities that promote India and Indians;
bullet Encourage active participation of Indians in the civic activities of the region;
bullet Encourage and support economic and entrepreneurial activities of Indians;
bullet Raise the general political consciousness on issues of concern to Indians and address and represent these issues to the local political and civic organizations;
bullet To actively promote Greater Pittsburgh in India;
bullet Be a one-stop source of information on India and the Indian diaspora.

Activites

Current activities include, among others,

bullet A community directory;
bullet Mainstream community service;
bullet Outreach presentations to schools, libraries, etc.;

ISoP seeks to bring everyone together. ISoP will not duplicate, challenge, or usurp the current roles of its member or sister organizations.

Goals

ISoP is calling on individuals to become volunteers and to contribute their time and expertise in planning and implementing ISoP activities of their choice.
